The Pinnacle of Office Park Crits in the Northeast
Office park criteriums are the heart and soul of amateur bike racing. Internet meme pages may poke fun at the “state of road cycling” these days, and indeed there aren’t as many events compared to the heyday of the early 2000’s and 2010’s, but it seems as though it’s back on the rise post-pandemic.
Wells Ave is an office park in Newton with a 0.8mi loop with no real corners and a wide, fast finishing straightaway. Great for our big boys™ who love to win from the break and from the field sprint. The race itself has been around since 1981 in some shape or form, and has adopted a weekly training race format over the years. We’ve had great success over the many years we’ve raced here (almost weekly), and we’re stoked that the series is back for 2023

AJ, who placed 3rd on the day, had to say….
“It was great to shake off the cobwebs, and pull the fast bike off the wall and go fast in circles again. After Dave took the mid-race prime sprint, I knew Robin would counter but was out of position. I ended up bridging to the attack late and burned a big match to do so, felt like it took a few laps before I could rotate again.
Robin was clearly very sharp, every time he came through in the rotation the speed upped a bit and we all had to dig in. It didn’t let up until the last 5 laps, where some speculative moves from the Velocio duo were brought back. I knew I had to follow Robin in the sprint, but simply just didn’t have much left to come by him. Getting 2nd to Robin though is still special, it’s great having him racing in New England and I hope for many more battles to come.”
David, with the cash prime…
“Coming back to Wells was a blast. It was the most competitive field I can recall seeing, which bodes well for the excitement to come in the upcoming season. Also great to see deep fields and a strong showing from NE Devo. They put on a good race and love to see the sport growing.
Legs felt great coming off of riding in Spain, fitness is up and sprint feels fast. Winning a prime was a good start but, will be shifting priorities to the real prize in the coming weeks. If it's a bunch sprint, you better watch your back!”
And for fun…what ChatGPT had to say
“Green Line Velo crushed it at the Wells Ave criterium last weekend, with A.J. Moran breaking away to nab second place in the A race. Moran said, "I knew I had to make my move early on and leave those other suckers in the dust."
The criterium was a thrilling challenge for the team, but they're already gearing up for their next ride. With speed demons like Moran on their side, the Green Line Velo crew is sure to pedal circles around the competition!”
